In December last the Centre for Community Journalism announced that we are launching a representative network for the independent community and hyperlocal news sector.
The network will advocate and lobby on behalf of independent news publishers across the country and fight for better opportunities for all.
Shortly after this announcement, we held a series of consultations across the UK, and everyone who participated helped us choose a name.
Based on all the feedback, the result is a name which we think embodies our core beliefs: that news should be independent, community-focused, and should provide a high standard of quality public interest news.
For a more in-depth explanation of what we mean by these terms, please visit the C4CJ website.
ICNN (Independent Community News Network) will be a representative network for all independent community news publishers across the UK that uphold these principles.
We will be holding an official launch in September to coincide with Cardiff University’s annual journalism conference. More details will be made available shortly.
In the meantime, behold our new logo!
We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked with us and provided input and feedback.
We are now accepting applications for membership and enquiries of interest for those who wish to join the advisory board. If you would like to become a member of ICNN, and be part of a network that will fight tirelessly to promote the interests of community and hyperlocal publishers, or if you are interested in becoming a member of the advisory board, please get in touch with Matt Abbott on [email protected] or Emma Meese on [email protected].
