Interactive map of ICNN member publications
By Matt Abbott | 20th Jul 2018
Since launching in January 2018, membership of the Independent Community News Network (ICNN) has grown to over 100 individual titles.
Viewed on the map, our members span the length and breadth of the UK, with titles in Northern Ireland, Cornwall and even the Shetland Islands.
Of these 104 members, 39 have either complimentary print newspapers, or publish a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly newspaper exclusively.
Membership is most concentrated in London, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.
The 15 titles that cover the city of Bristol and the surrounding area are exclusively print publications. However, many of these belong to the same publisher.
The south coast appears to be fertile ground for independent community news, as does the east midlands.
Anglia, including Cambridge, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire are vastly under-represented in terms of represented independent news coverage. This is compounded by the lack of legacy media in these areas too.
The same can be said for Yorkshire and the north east.
This is not to say that there is no coverage in these areas at all. This map indexes titles represented by ICNN only.
If you know of a publication that may benefit from being a member of ICNN, or if your own publication is not shown here and you think it should be, please don’t hesitate to contact Matt on firstname.lastname@example.org.
